Day 01: Nairobi

On arrival you will be met at the airport by our representative and transferred to a Nairobi Hotel where you will spend your overnight stay. We shall then head out for an orientation tour of the town before paying a visit to the National Museum bird’s gallery for a lecture on birds before dusk engulfs us at NAIROBI SAFARI CLUB HOTEL.

Day 02: Nairobi – Lake Magadi

After breakfast we leave Nairobi and then drive to the southern side of Kenya with a picnic Lunch and to Lake Magadi located deep in the heart of Southern Kenya’s Masai land. The lake covers an area of 104 sq. km Soda Lake and is completely surrounded by vast natural salt flats. These sweltering plains prevent any animals from reaching the alkaline lake at its center. For this reason, thousands of flamingos descend on the Lake each year to feed on the algae and crustacea at the lake’s shore safe from any potential predators such as Fish eagle. Freshwater springs at the Lake’s shore attract a host of other birds like the specialty of this lake the Chestnut Banded Plover, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper to name a few. Later in the afternoon we return to Nairobi arriving late evening. Dinner and Overnight stay will be at NAIROBI SAFARI CLUB HOTEL (BLD)

Day 03: Nairobi – Lake Naivasha

After breakfast we depart from our Nairobi hotel for a scenic drive through the great North road to Lake Naivasha. Stop en-route at the viewpoints of the Great Rift Valley for stunning views arriving Lake Naivasha by midmorning for bird walk before time for lunch at Lake Naivasha Lodge. Lake Naivasha being a fresh water lake on the Rift floor is home to an incredible variety of species. Over 450 species have been recorded here. An afternoon option of either a boat ride or a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park before returning for dinner and overnight stay at LAKE NAIVASHA LODGE (BLD)

Day 04: Lake Naivasha – Lake Nakuru

This morning we leave Naivasha and head for Lake Nakuru Park, regarded by avid birders’ as the greatest World ornithological spectacle on the Earth. The park is famous for its millions of pink flamingoes, arriving by mid morning at Lake Nakuru for a game drive en route before checking-in at LAKE NAKURU LODGE Lunch.

Afternoon game drive followed by a walk along the shores which will also allow us to see the many wild animals in the park and especially the park is the Sanctuary to the Black Rhino, White Rhino and the Rothschild Giraffe. Here we’ll have the chance to look out at some of the common species like the Lesser and Greater Flamingoes, African fish Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Green Wood Hoopoes, Cliff Chat, Great White and Pink Backed Pelicans plus other intra- African Migrants. Dinner and Overnight stay today will be at LAKE NAKURU LODGE (BLD).

Day 04: Lake Nakuru

Today we will spend the whole day bird watching at the park and if lucky enough we have the chance to see the shy cat “the Leopard” mostly seen in this park before returning for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon we have some time to relax before embarking on our late afternoon game drive to try and capture what was not seen during the day before the dusk engulf us. Dinner and Overnight stay will be at LAKE NAKURU LODGE (BLD).

Day 05: Lake Nakuru – Lake Baringo

We depart today in the morning after breakfast and drive further North to Lake Baringo, arriving in time mid – morning bird walk around the lodge before time for Lunch. Lake Baringo is fresh water has it own share of bird life species like the White Faced Scopes Owl, Brimstone Canary, Bristol Crowned Starling, Goliath Heron, Little Weaver, Jackson’s and Hemprich’s Hornbill.

We’ll check-in at Lake Baringo Country Club a superb and compact hotel set at the shores of Lake Baringo. After a relaxed lunch we’ll descend down on to the cliffs to look for the white faced Scopes owl, Black throated barbet, mouse collared tit before returning at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay tonight will be at LAKE BARINGO COUNTRY CLUB (BLD).

Day 06: Lake Baringo – Samburu

We leave Baringo after breakfast and head Samburu, a place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers, Samburu National Reserve lies on the fringes of the vast and arid desert once known as the Northern Frontier District, whose heat-scorched scrublands extend all the way to the jade-green waters of Lake Turkana and beyond. Physically dramatic, the 104 sq kilometres landscape of the Reserve features rocky battlements, craggy scarps, dry river beds and fallen boulders rising out of the thorn scrub against a backdrop of the far-distant hills and the great red table mountain known as Lololokwe. As for wildlife, Samburu provides one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare Beisa Oryx, the long necked antelope “Gerenuk” and the Blue-shanked Somali ostrich whilst large herds of elephant roam the gaunt hills during the day before returning to bathe on the banks of the river in the evening. Birdlife in this reserve is not raging behind as it is profuse, and species such as Somali and white throated bee-eaters, golden pipit, Vulturine guinea fowl, White headed Mouse bird, Buff Crested Bustards, Black capped Social Weaver, Donaldson-Smith’s Sparrow Weaver, Golden Breasted Starling among other dry land species. Lunch will be at Nanyuki Town before descending to the reserve and arriving at time for the evening Game cum bird viewing before checking -in at ASHNIL TENTED CAMP

Day 07: Samburu

Today we will spend the whole day bird watching at the park. In the afternoon we have some time to relax before embarking on our late afternoon game drive to try and capture what was not seen during the day before the dusk engulf us. Dinner and Overnight stay will be at ASHNIL TENTED CAMP

Day 08: Samburu – Mt. Kenya

We will spend the whole day birding at this Montane forest region. Rare species likely to be seen include; Green Ibis, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Harrier Hawk, Rufous Sparrow hawk, Ayre’s Hawk Eagle. Black stork, Red Fronted Parrots, Green Ibis Common snipe, Mountain Buzzard, Bronze napped pigeon Mountain white-eye, Abbots Starling, Sharpe’s Starling, Mountain Oriole and Thick-billed seedeater. Dinner and Overnight stay will be at NARO MORU RIVER LODGE (BLD).

Day 09: Mt. Kenya – Nairobi – Fly

After breakfast, we drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at Ranger’s Restaurant where you can enjoy some good food, later Check-in to a day room at Nairobi hotel. Farewell dinner Later early in the evening, will be hosted by our company at the world famous Carnivore Restaurant considered “Africa’s greatest eating experience” (if you love barbecue it doesn’t get better than this), and home to the “Simba Saloon” one of the city’s most popular night clubs. Thereafter you will be transferred to the airport in time for your International departure flight.

9 Days Kenya Ornithological Safari

Nairobi – Lake Elementaita – Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara

Day 01: Arrival

On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport (morning flight), met by our representative and later transferred to Nairobi Safari Club Hotel where you will check-in and later we proceed to Nairobi National Park, an ornithological paradise starter within the city environs. Afternoon guided visit to National Museum Bird Gallery, Followed by a short bird walk at Nairobi National Museum Botanic Garden. Here we anticipate seeing species like the Variable Sunbird, Bronze Sunbird and the Collard Sunbird, African Goshawk, Palm swift, Baglafetch Weaver, among others. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight stay will be at Nairobi Safari Club or similar one. (LD)

Day 02: Nairobi – Lake Elementaita

Morning departure to Lake Elementaita arriving in the mid morning bird walk to try andidentify available species like the Feral lovebird, Avocet, Klaas’ cuckoo, Glossy ibis, Black heron, Red billed Teal, Black tailed godwit among others before time for lunch at Lake Elementaita Lodge. An afternoon bird walk around the lodge environs before time for Dinner and overnight at Lake Elementaiat Lodge (BLD).

Day 03: Lake Elementaita – Lake Naivasha

After breakfast we depart from Elementaita for a scenic drive through the Great North road to Lake Naivasha arriving by mid-morning for bird walk before time for lunch at Lake Naivasha Lodge. Lake Naivasha being close to Lake Nakuru and 65 miles from Nairobi, is freshwater Lake Naivasha. It was declared a bird sanctuary in 1967 and also supports pastoral industries of wine and flowers. During our full day field trip to Lake Naivasha, we study the birds of the region such as herons, fish eagles, ospreys, black crakes, and lily-trotters. Dominated by the shadow of Mt. Longonot, few lakes in the world have a more commanding or spectacular setting than Naivasha. We also have an excursion to the Elsa mere Center. Activities include reliving the experience of Joy Adamson and Elsa while viewing “Born Free.” Lake Naivasha being on the Rift floor is home to an incredible variety of species. Over 450 species have been recorded here. Dinner and overnight stay at Lake Naivasha Lodge (BLD)

Day 04: Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National Park

After breakfast, we head for a morning bird walk with the aim of viewing birds on the shores of the Lake with a few hours of relaxation before lunch. Afternoon visit to Hell’s Gate National Park, which is a breeding ground for vultures in Kenya e.g. Lammergeyer vultures we also anticipate for species like Imperial eagle, Schalow’s wheatear, Chin spot batis. Dinner & overnight tonight will be served at Lake Naivasha Lodge (BLD).

Day 05: Hell’s Gate National Park – Lake Nakuru

After breakfast depart for Lake Nakuru National Park known as “The pink Heart Of Kenya” because of the millions of Flamingoes that cover the lake with pink shine.

Afternoon game/bird viewing, dinner and overnight stay will be at Lakuru Nakuru Lodge (BLD).

Day 06: Lake Nakuru National Park

Today we will spend the whole day bird watching at the park and if lucky enough we have the chance to see the shy cat “the Leopard” mostly seen in this park before returning for lunch at the lodge. Day 07: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

Soon after breakfast, drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley the longest Rift in the crust of the Earth to Masai Mara Game Reserve the unspoiled Savannah. Masai Mara is actually the northern portion of the Great Plains ecosystem in the neighboring Tanzania called Serengeti. It is a home to the “big five” lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard and elephant as well cheetah, zebra, giraffe and vast herds of plain antelope and numerous and other wildlife.

Our accommodation for the nights will be at one of the excellent lodge Mara Sopa Lodge. Sopa is a Masai word meaning welcome and indeed this is a tradition which has be well adopted by the lodge to all guest. Set in the Oloolaimutia valley the lodge blends in the perfectly with its surrounding hillside landscape. After lunch and some time to relax and perhaps take a dip in the pool, you will depart with your driver guide for an afternoon game drive in search of the big five. As sun starts to edge dip into the horizon it will be perfect time to photograph the beautiful Mara rolling plains. Don’t forget this is the right time to spot the shy leopard. Day 08: Masai Mara

An early morning birding cum game drive after breakfast will be our perfect start of another unforgettable and memorable birding day in Africa. With picnic lunch en-route you spend your day in Mara Plains trying to identify and record the over 450 species record in this reserve. All meals and Overnight tonight will be served at, Mara Sopa Lodge (BLD).

Day 09: Masai Mara – Nairobi – Fly

After breakfast, we drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at Toona Tree Restaurant where you can enjoy some good Italian food, Check-in to a day room at Nairobi hotel. Farewell dinner Later early in the evening, will be hosted by our company at the world famous Carnivore Restaurant considered “Africa’s greatest eating experience” (if you love barbecue it doesn’t get better than this), and home to the “Simba Saloon” one of the city’s most popular night clubs. Thereafter you will be transferred to the airport in time for your International departure flight

13 Days Bird Watching Kakamega Forest, Mt. Kenya, Lake Baringo, Masai Mara, Soysambu Sanctuary

A journey From mountain moorland, through Rift Valley, Acacia bush, dense Kakamega forest, lakes, swamps ,grasslands and national parks. Hopping to see over 400 species of birds and great diversity of mammals, insects, spiders, fungi and trees.

Day 1:

Departure from Nairobi for Mt Kenya arriving for lunch. Afternoon birding (bird watching) along the nearby forest trails or wait for wildlife at nearby saltlick. Hope to see Olive & Bronze napped pigeons, Silvery Cheeked hornbills, Ruppels Robin Chat, White-starred Forest Robin, Mountain Greenbul, Stuhlmans sterling and may be Vereaux Eagle .Overnight at your Lodge.

Day 2:

An early breakfast, drive to slopes of Mt Kenya through numerous vegetation zones and onto 10,000 ft Afro- alpine moorland. Return on afternoon for bird watching safari walk along the river line forests. Hope to see; Black duck, Hartulabs Turaco, Crowned hornbill, Paradise flycatchers and eight species of sunbirds Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 3-4:

Early morning departure over the Great Rift Valley onto on to Sosyambu wildlife sanctuary. Outstanding night game drives & nature/bird watching safari walks which is a truly memorable locality. Famous for flamingos, Pelicans and water birds but equally rich in Narina Trogon, Arrow-marked Babbler and Red -headed weaver, Hildebrand’s Francoli, Montane and Dusky Night jars. Full day visit to Lake Nakuru National Park. Two overnights at a camp.

Day 5-6:

After a short drive north ,past hot springs of lake Bogoria and onto L. Baringo. Afternoon boat excursion to view Hippo, Crocodiles and water birds at close range. Dark Chanting Goshwak, Silverbird, Cliffchats, Jackson’s and Yellow-billed hornbills, brown- tailed Rock Chat, Bristle-crowned Startling, Verreaux Eagle and Spotted Eagle Owl. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 7-8:

Full day drive over Tugen hills ,through the Kerio valley and Serikwa plateau and finally to Kakamega forest, a rain forest with its flora and fauna fascinating.bird watching walks Specialities include Great Blue Turaco , Emerald Cuckoo ,Blue Headed Bee Eater, Black and White Casked Hornbill, Black-billed and Violet’s Black Weavers. Overnight at a Resort.

Day 9-12:

After breakfast drive past L.Victoria to The Maasai Mara Game Reserve, East Africa finest wildlife Park. All the Big Five ,Black Rhino ,Elephant ,Lion, Cheetah, Leopard ,Zebra, Wild beast, Heartbeats, Topi, Eland, Thompson and Grant Gazelles and many more alongside bird watching safaris Open -billed Storks, Temminck’s Courser, Yellow-throated Sangrouse, Usambiro Barbet and Denham’s Bustard and many more. Nature walks along side a Maasai guide. Four nights at a Camp.

Day 13:

After morning bird watching game drive return to Nairobi arriving on afternoon to hotel of your choice.
